![]() ![]() guitar amp was markedly different from the amplifiers that Leo Fender and other. And for pros, it can easily suffice a day of being out and about. JMI brought the first Vox amplifier, the AC15, to market in early 1958. ![]() Reverb: There are no reverbs on either one of the amp. Fender Frontman has only an on and off gain switch. The most famous Vox amp is the AC-30, which for a while in the 60s came with a 'top boost' channel that pushed the high-end content of the tone even further. Gain control: Vox Pathfinder has a gain knob that has different levels of gain control. Vox amps share a lot with Fender but have a reputation for even more shiny clean tones with very treble-intensive sounds. Both speakers are about 6 inches in size. You’ll likely need both amps to get the full range of sounds you want. Open/closed backs: Fender Frontman 10g has a close back while the Vox Pathfinder is open back. The Vox is better for playing clean tones, while the Fender is better for playing overdriven or distorted tones. The Vox AC30, or even AC15 will handle all those styles well, but youll probably find Oranges a bit dirtier than you want for jazz. Orange make great sounding amps, but theyre more about the gain. You’ll get about 4 hours of playtime, which is enough to last most home guitarists a week. The Vox has a clearer and brighter sound, while the Fender has a warmer and fuller sound. Vox is more versatile with better cleans, and I also think Vox is a better amp for the money. The USB output is solid enough that I was able to easily track a few rhythm guitar parts into my computer, though I’d probably use my “real deal” tube amp setup on actual studio recordings. The only downside is these controls are a little tough to see in the dark.Īs far as listening to yourself, the amp has a 3.5-mm stereo output as well as USB-C for both charging and digital output, which makes it double as the tiniest audio interface I’ve ever used. A power and Bluetooth pairing switch sit on the opposite side, should you want to pair up and jam along with your smartphone or tablet. It has a big volume knob on top and four sets of buttons on the side that let you adjust amp, equalizer, and effects settings. This particular model delivers that valve amp tone Vox is famous for, the AC30 Top Boost. ![]() Thanks to its simple design and great tones it’s found many a fan, from beginners all the way to touring professionals. The controls are among the easiest to understand (and find) of any tiny amp I’ve tried. Vox’s amPlug was one of the first popular headphone amps for guitar. That connector is designed to swivel so it can fit everything from angled Stratocaster inputs to straight-sided Gibsons. It‘s a bit like a pager with a foldable quarter-inch instrument connector nestled into its top. The Mustang Micro isn’t much to look at, mimicking the wireless guitar packs you may have seen your favorite pro musicians rocking on stage. ![]()
